Film stars lambaste Parochial forces : Dutt feted.

Film Thespian Dilip Kumar had lamented that parochial forces and fissiparous tendencies had torn apart the basic fiber of the country leading to erosion of precious values such as humanity and nationalism.

He was addressing a gathering at a function organized by Sahyog Foundation here last night to felicitate Sunil Dutt, former M. P. and Social activist, for his significant contribution to National Integration.

Presiding over the function, the actor said he was aghast to find India in such a situation and regretted that those responsible for this mess were sitting on lofty pedestal as the architects of the nation.

Replying to his felicitation, Dutt said that no religion preached hatred. He castigated fundamentalists who were inciting people in the name of religion.

Dutt said he disagreed with those who expressed time and again the Religion was in danger. “Religion is a philosophy and can never be destroyed. I strongly believe that humanity is not dead.”

The Chairman of Sahyog Foundation, Ram Jawhrani described Dutt as the “Messiah of Peace” and eulogized his contribution to promotion of National Integration.

By organizing “Peace Padyatras” within the country and abroad, entertaining jawans at the border during Indo-China war, helping cancer patients to mtitgate their traumatic sufferings and launching a war against drug abuse, Dutt had demonstrated his dedication to serve the nation, Jawhrani added.

Dutt was felicitated with a trophy and a Maharashtrian “Pheta” (turban) of tri-colour.

Prominent among the film personalities who honoured Dutt were G. P. Sippy, former President of Film Federation of India, Sultan Ahmed, President of Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association, Music Maestro Naushad.

MPCC General Secretary, Kripashankar Singh, President of Indian Health Organisation, Dr. I. S. Gilada, President of Drug Rehabilitation Centre, Dr. Yusuf Merchant, Varsha Ojha, Principal of Spastics Society of India. Television Personality Tabassum and film stars, Mack Mohan and Sudhir also spoke on the occasion.
