Mega Star Amitabh Bachchan was honoured with “Star of the Millennium” Award by Sahyog Foundation, a socio-cultural organization, at a function here last night.

Replying to his felicitation, Bachchan said “I do not know whether I deserve this award but I accept it with all humility.” When Bachchan was conferred with the award, the entire audience gave him a standing ovation.

Playback singer Mahinder Kapoor, film actress Raveena Tandon, D. K. Raikar, Deputy Editor of Loksatta and film columnist Chaitanya Padukone were also conferred “Sahyog” awards for their significant contribution respective fields.

Speaking on the occasion, Nana Chudasama, former Sheriff of Mumbai and World President, Giants International, said non governmental organizations like Sahyog Foundation played a catalyst role in the development of the nation. He lauded the efforts of Sahyog Foundation in spheres like Rural development, Welfare of Handicapped, Medical, Educational and Promotion of Art, Culture and National Integration.

Chairman of Sahyog Foundation, Ram Jawhrani lamented that Western Music was influencing the Indian masses while folk songs and classical music were ignored by the younger generation.

On the occasion, “Sindhi Sangeet Ji Shaam” a cultural programme, was presented by eminent artists from all over the country such as Chandru Atma, Mahesh Chander, Ghansham Vaswani, Satram Rohra, Dushant Ahuja, Kajal Chandiramani, Ramesh Rajpal and Renuka Israni.

Well known Anchor Harish Bhimani, compeered the programme which was attended by NRIs from all over the world.

Popular Playback Singer, Mahendra Kapoor and "Bhajan Samrat" Anup Jalota will be honoured by Sahyog Foundation on the eve of the Millennium for their significant contribution in their respective fields.

The felicitation shall be accorded by Sahyog Foundation at a cultural programme "Sindhi Sangeet Ji Shaam" slated to be held on December 18, 1999, 7 p.m. Foundation Chairman, Ram Jawhrani, said in a statement here.

The award, comprising Gold Medal and trophy each, shall be presented to Mahendra Kapoor for his memorable voice in the song of the Millennium "Mere Desh Ki Dharti".

Anup Jalota, who has captured the hearts of millions with his golden voice, shall also be honoured with a gold medal and a trophy.

Mega Star Amitabh Bachchan will be the Chief Guest while Nana Chudasama, World President, Giants International shall preside over the function.
