Sahyog Times International Inauguration

The Maharashtra Rajya Sindhi Sahitya Akademy has planned to organize "Sindhi Mahaotsav" jointly with Sahyog Foundation, a Socio-cultural Organization, held in January next year, the Akademy Chairman and Maharashtra Minister for Cultural Affairs, Mr. Vilasrao Deshmukh, announced here on Saturday while releasing the inaugural issue of "Sahyog Times", bi-monthly house magazine of the Foundation.

The "Sindhi Mahaotsav" would be the first of its kind in the country depicting the 5000-year-old rich culture of Mohan-jo-daro (Sindh) through exhibitions, music and drama festivals and "Jhankis", the Minister said and urged the Sahyog Foundation to join hands with the Akademy in organizing this cultural show.

Addressing the gathering, the Editor of the magazine and Chairman, Sahyog Foundation, Mr. Ram Jawhrani said after partition, Sindhis left their homeland and came to India as paupers. They spread all over the country contributing their mite to nation-building.

Mr. Jawhrani said the main objective of Sahyog Times was to highlight the cultural activities of the Sindhi Community and bring this section of the population, numbering 60 lakhs, closer to non-Sindhis. The magazine would attempt to foster cultural links and brotherhood between Sindhis and other communities to promote national integration, he observed.

Mr. Nari Gurshani, President, International Sindhi Panchayat's Federation, said Sindhis had excelled in every field and their contribution to nation-building was tremendous. However, there was a feeling among the community that they were political orphans. He hoped that the magazine would be the voice of Sindhi Community. Film actress, Bhaghyashree said the fourth estate had an important role to play in the progress of nation and urged Sahyog Times to focus on National Integration for which Sahyog Foundation has done commendable work.

Mr. Gobind Malhi, Working Chairman, Maharashtra Rajya Sindhi Sahitya Akademi, lamented that the Sindhi culture was disintegrating as the population of the community was spread across the length and breadth of the country. He hoped that Sahyog Times would help the younger generation in imbibing the qualities of leadership and brotherhood.

Inaugural Function of Sahyog Times (A Sahyog Foundation Publication) will be held at Girnar Bungalow, Pali Hill, Bandra, on 4th June 1994, at 4-30 p.m.

Shri Vilasrao Deshmukh, Maharashtra Minister for Cultural Affairs will inaugurate Sahyog Times, bi-monthly English Magazine.

Shri Nari Gursahani, President, International Sindhi Panchayat’s Federation will preside over the function.

Shri Gobind Malhi and Shri Mangharam Sipahimalani will be the Guests of honour.

Sahyog Foundation, a socio-cultural organization, is launching a house magazine –“Sahyog Times” On June 4. The Maharashtra Minister for Cultural Affairs, Shri Vilasrao Deshmukh, will release the inaugural issue of the bi-monthly magazine at Girnar Bungalow, Bandra.

According to Shri Ram Jawhrani, Editor of the Magazine and Chairman, Sahyog Foundation, Sahyog Times would highlight all cultural events, happenings and activities of the Sindhi Community and bring this section of population closer to non-Sindhis.

The Sindhi Community has spread its tentacles in almost every sphere of activity but little is known about them to the rest of the country. It is here that Sahyog Times will play its crucial role in fostering ties between Sindhis and non-Sindhis, Shri Jawhrani said in a statement here.

Since the main objective of Sahyog Times is to promote art and culture, it will also highlight cultural events of Maharashtra.
