Sahyog Foundation Film Awards Nite

Sahyog Foundation, a Socio-cultural organization dedicated to the cause of promoting Art and Culture and encouraging up and coming talents in the tinsel world, has decided to felicitate all artistes who have worked in Navketan’s Films in the last 40 years.

This was announced by the Chairman of Sahyog Foundation, Mr. Ram Jawhrani, here today.

The contribution of Navketan Films to the Industry was immense, in that, the films produced under its banner have provided clean, healthy and good entertainment with a message to the society right from the days of ‘Baazi’ (1950) to ‘Sau Crore’ (1991).

The evergreen star and pioneer of Navketan films, Dev Anand, had introduced severl new talents in the last four decades. Many prominent artists, who have reached the pinnacle of success, have worked in Navketan Films at one time or the other in their chequered career.

In order to make the function a grand success, a reception committee comprising leading figures from different walks of life, has been formed. Dr. Mehroo Bengalee, Dr. Ram S. Tarneja, Mr. Pritish Nandy, Mr. Gulshan Rai, Mr. G. P. Sippy, Mr. K. Sital (Hong Kong), Mr. Ram Buxani (Dubai), Mr. Nana Chudasama and Dr. B. K. Goyal have consented to be on the reception committee.

It was in film ‘Baazi’ that Guru Dutt got a break in Direction, Balraj Sahni in story writing, Sahir Ludhianvi in Lyrics and Johny Walker in comedy.

The Logo of Navketan Films is ‘Lamp’ and rightly so it has given enough light to the Indian Cinema.

Mr. Jawhrani said that Navketan films have focused on all subjects of importance in the society such as ‘Kala Bazaar’ (Black Marketing), Guide (faith in God and sacrifice), Prem Pujari (National Integration), Hare Rama Hare Krishna (Drug awareness), Desh Pradesh (illegal emigration) Loot Maar (Terrorism) and Sau Crore (Politics).

The felicitation function will be held on December 28 at Hotel Centaur where all artists would be honoured with trophies. Eminent personalities of the Film Industry would grace the occasion.

A reception committee, comprising people from different walks of life, has been formed to make the programme a grand success.

Film thespian Dev Anand has lamented over the situation prevailing in Punjab, Assam and Jammu and Kashmir and urged the masses to shun regionalism and join the national mainstream.

Replying to his felicitation accorded by Sahyog Foundation, a Socio-cultural organization, to mark 40 years of Navketan Films here last night, the mega star said national unity and Integration was the need of the hour and the union government should steer itself in this direction.

“I make films with a certain conviction and whether it is a box office hit or a flop I do not care,” he said.

Mrs. Sheila Kaul, Union Minister for Urban development, Film Producer, Gulshan Rai, Mr. Ramesh Dube, Maharashtra Minister for food and civil supplies and Mr. Vivek Goenka, Joint Managing Director of Express Group of Newspapers, gave away awards to 35 film artistes who have worked in Navketan films in the last four decades.

Among those who received awards were Ajit, Prem Chopra, Bindu, Rajendra Nath, Nirupa Roy, Shobha Khote, Amjad Khan, Sudhir, Mack Mohan, Johny Walker, Raman Kapoor, Fatima Shaikh, Neeta Puri, Janki Das, Anjan Srivastav, Iftekar, Jagdish Raaj, Gautam Sarin, Naaz, Parikshit Sahni, Ranjeet, Natasha Sinha, Sunil Anand and Tabassum.
