Hema Malini - Durga Dance Ballet

The Maharashtra Finance Minister, Mr. Ramrao Adik, has stressed the need for family planning to check rising population in the country and meet the twin challenges of poverty and unemployment.

Addressing a galazy of personalities at a function organized by Sahyog Foundation, here last night, Mr. Adik said there should be a Binding force on people o all the religions to limit their families to two children.

The Minister said National Integration was the need of the hour and should be promoted through the medium of art and culture. He complimented film star Hema Malini for presenting a dance ballet, “DURGA”, on the occasion.

Seven prominent personalities, from different walks of life were felicitated with Sahyog Awards – Asha Bhonsale (Playback singing), Pran (Films), Hema Malini (Dance), Hansaben Mehta (Social service), Vikyomal Shroff (Philanthrophy), Mahesh Chander (Music) and Dr. Satish Kumar Rohra (Literature)

Receiving the Sahyog Foundation Award for Lifetime achievement veteran filmstar, Pran handed over a cheque of Rs. One Lakh to the Chairman, Mr. Ram Jawhrani, and Mr. Adik for construction of at least tow houses in Quakehit areas of Latur and Osmanabad districts of Maharashtra in memory of Dadasaheb Phalke, father of Indian Cinema and V. Shantaram, the doyen of the film industry.

Replying to her felicitation, playback singer, Asha Bhonsale lamented that some film magazines displayed obscene photographs instead of depicting the rich Indian culture which was focused by the film industry. She complimented Hema Malini for staging dance ballet DURGA for which reflected the rich Indian culture.

Mr. Jawhrani said the function was organized to support the expansion programme for Sadhu Vaswani College, Bhopal, and construction of Home for the Aged of Raj Rajeshwari Foundation. He announced that a sum of Rs. 5.08 lakhs had been collected for these causes.

The social welfare Minister, Mr. Ramdas Athawale, cautioned the masses against fissiparous forces who were dividing the people in the name of religion. He urged the people to remain united and _____________ was only through cultural bonds that unity can be preserved.

The former Sheriff of Bombay, Mr. Nana Chudasama, described Hema Malini as the “Queen of Culture in India”. He urged Sahyog Foundation to focus on family planning programmes for the betterment of the country.

The function commenced with the lighting of “Sadhbhavna” lamp by the Chief Guest, Mr. Ramrao Adik, Mr. Ramdas Athawale, Asha Bhonsale, Mr. Nana Chudasama, Pran and Mr. Ram Jawhrani, Chairman of Sahyog Foundation.

The programmed was compeered by Tabassum.

Veteran Film actor, Pran, will be felicitated for life time achievement by Sahyog Foundation, a socio-cultural organization, at Nehru Auditorium, here on October 22, 1993 according to the Foundation Chairman, Mr. Ram Jawhrani.

Two other eminent Personalities, Dr. L. R. Bhojwani who has been recently appointed Consul General of the Republic of Sierra Leone, (West Africa) in India and Mahesh Chander (Playback singer and Music director) will also be felicitated by the Foundation for their valuable contribution to the society in their respective fields, Mr. Jawhrani added.

“Durga” a dance ballet by film star Hema Malini and her troupe would be staged on the occasion.

Ministers of the Government of Maharashtra, Ministers of the Government of Maharashtra Messrs. Ramrao Adik, Arun Gujarathi, Prabhakar Dharkar and Arun Diwekar, Govindrao Adik, M. P. and former Sheriff of Bombay Mr. Nana Chudasma, would light “Sadbhavna” lamp to mark the inauguration of the function.
